Empowering Educators, Supporting Every Learner

ILT Education UK provides high-quality digital resources that support literacy, multilingual learning, and inclusive education. We help educators to create inclusive, accessible and engaging learning experiences for all learners, including those with additional support needs and English as an Additional Language (EAL).

Our story began back in 2011 as Giglets Education, an EdTech company with a passion for bringing literacy to life in classrooms throughout the UK. Since becoming part of ILT Education in 2022, we have expanded our portfolio while deepening our impact on education, accessibility, and inclusion. Today, we continue to grow - driven by the belief that every child deserves an equal opportunity to learn and thrive.

  • Support multilingual learners with access to content in multiple languages.

Our unique offering empowers educators, supports learners, and creates positive learning outcomes across the UK and beyond.

Our work is guided by a simple but powerful belief: every child has the right to an equal education.

Our company history

2011

Founding of Giglets Education

  • Giglets Education was founded in Ayrshire, Scotland, in June 2011 by Craig Johnstone, Dr. Karsten Karcher and Jax McGhee. Originally, Giglets Education began as a collection of ebooks, launched via iTunes, Amazon, Kobo, and other platforms, reaching readers in over 50 countries. We set out to reimagine classic literature and to inspire a new generation of readers.

2012-2014

Building Partnerships and Developing Giglets

  • As Giglets Education grew, it secured key partnerships with language organisations such as the Gaelic Books Council (GBC), Culture Vannin, and the Manx Heritage Foundation. Its dedication to digital education was recognised with accolades, including the ScotEDGE Award and a Scottish Parliament Motion.
  • In 2013, the ScotEDGE Award provided £46,500 to support the business in developing what our customers, teachers and learners would later recognise as Giglets.
  • By 2014, after 18 months of dedicated development, Giglets Education launched its core software at the Scottish Learning Festival, marking its transition into a leading EdTech provider.

2015-2017

Expansion and Recognition

  • In 2015 Giglets Education began welcoming schools from Scotland and Wales to its platform. Our growth continued across Scotland, Wales, England, and Ireland, with new partnerships formed, including collaborations with Juniper Education and Bòrd na Gàidhlig.
  • A major milestone came in 2017, when Giglets Education secured a £1.3m Scottish Government contract for delivering the National Standardised Assessments for Gaelic Education (MCNG) - a significant achievement that reinforced our impact and commitment to literacy education.

2018-2021

Expansion and Recognition Continued

  • In 2018, a partnership with KidsOut UK for WorldStories helped expand our impact, reaching over 15,000 educators worldwide. These efforts were recognised with the Education & Training Award at the Scottish Digital Business Awards.
  • Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Giglets Education remained committed to delivering high-quality online learning, supporting a rapidly growing user base that surpassed 100,000 learners. In 2021, Giglets Education took its next big step internationally, launching in Ontario, Canada, expanding the team to 12 members, and serving more than 400 schools.

2022

Acquisition by ILT Education

  • In March 2022, Giglets Education was acquired by Sweden's ILT Education, a leading Nordic EdTech company. This acquisition, backed by social impact investor Trill Impact, marked the beginning of a new chapter, driving further growth across the UK and internationally. Nessy is the most trusted solution for 4,500+ schools to support reading development among children with dyslexia with its flagship product Nessy Reading and Spelling. Nessy also launched Number Sense designed to support learners struggling with maths and specifically those who have dyscalculia. This acquisition not only strengthened ILT’s UK footprint but also brought with it operations in the US, Australia and New Zealand.

2025

  • In 2025, we rebranded as ILT Education UK, marking a new chapter in our journey as part of the ILT Education family.
